I began working on this army back in 2014 after one of my great Warhammer purges and swore that this would be my “forever” army. I’ve been through some hardships since then but the Lamenters have always remained, and even grown throughout the years. Here we’ll take a look at the army as it stands today.
HQ Section.
Here we have a Chaplain, Techmarine and Apothecary. While the editions keep shuffling these guys around through HQ and Elite slots, the Lamenters lore remains the same. I view this army as a historical one and thus lore takes precedent at all times.
The only Finecast models I own, the Chaplain is an important part of the Lamenters as they are presented in this force. Chaplains maintain the moral compass of the remaining Lamenters and gives them the strength to carry on the fight in the Emperor’s name. This one is equipped with a Jump Pack and serves as companion and executioner for the Lamenters Death Company Squad.
This is probably my oldest model and so far only one of two metal models in the entire force. Apothecaries are very important to the Lamenters in the post-Badab era because despite the ban on creating new Marines, Gene-Seed still needs recovered and soldiers need healing. Blood Angels players will recoil in shock and horror; he’s supposed to be a Sanguinary Priest! Not so for the Lamenters whose battle doctrine is far more Codex adherent than their parent Chapter’s. Apothecaries instead serve a more important role and are incorporated into the Command Section of the Chapter in an organisation known as the Calix.
Rounding out the HQ section (for now) is a metal Techmarine. I could not find him the proper backpack, the one with all the servo-arms, so I had to kitbash my own. I think mine looks a bit more sensible, having the big gripper arm and an extendable support strut, like you would see on a crane or other bit of large machinery. I love quartered/halved paint schemes and so this fellow ended up looking a bit like a Howling Griffon, but oh well! I chose this model to be a Lamenter because it fits thematically. The Lamenters are so hard-pressed for wargear and vehicles that they simply cannot afford to leave anything behind on the field of battle nor let anything fall into disrepair. Given their luck both in the lore and on the tabletop, he’s got his work cut out for him!
Elites Section.
My most recent completed addition to the force is a group of six Sternguard Veterans. Lamenters are primarily an assault army, but assault weapons are a bit harder to source and given all the limitations imposed on the collection by lore factors I am forced to work with what I have. No matter, these Marines turned out quite well and each model is armed with a customised boltgun to signify their highly specialised weaponry.
The humble Dreadnought, rare for the Lamenters but who can resist adding one to their force? This one has been through a lot and even served during the Badab War as signified by the highlighted “Badab” on the Assault Cannon housing.
Well it appears I have run out of room, so the rest of the army will be featured in another post, dang.
